Arcade Fire to headline Glastonbury

Canadian band finally get their break at Worthy Farm.

Arcade Fire have been confirmed as the first headliners for next year’s Glastonbury Festival.

The Canadian art rockers tweeted a picture of four of their June European dates, one of which was a gig at the world famous festival.

The band will close the Pyramid stage on the Friday night.

Frontman Win Butler told Radio 1’s Zane Lowe: “It’s such a communal rite of passage in the UK. Just on a musical level, we’re super-excited to strap on our wellies and let it rip.”

Arcade Fire are the only band to be officially confirmed to appear at the festival, although other acts such as Lily Allen have self confirmed.

They released their fourth studio album, Reflektor, in October this year. It featured guest vocals from David Bowie and reached top spot in the charts.

The band supported the album’s release with a series of intimate shows in London, Glasgow and Blackpool under the pseudonym ‘The Reflektors’.

Arcade Fire last played Glastonbury in 2007, appearing on the Other Stage.

Their last UK festival headline slot came in 2010 at Reading and Leeds. Their performance at Reading can be seen below.

This year’s festival was headlined by Arctic Monkeys, The Rolling Stones and Mumford & Sons.

Tickets for the 2014 event sold out in record time back in October, after just one hour and 27 minutes.

There will be a resale of cancelled tickets in the Spring. In order to buy a ticket you need to register with Glastonbury here.

Glastonbury Festival takes place at Worthy Farm in Pilton, Somerset from Wednesday, June 25 to Sunday June 29.
